PADI IDC PROGRAMS | Sosua - Dominican Republic

Where is the Dominican Republic?

Take the plunge

The Dominican Republic is part of the island of Hispaniola; the western third of the island is occupied by the nation of Haiti. It is the second largest Caribbean nation (after Cuba), with an estimated 10 million inhabitants. The Dominican Republic is a very stable and safe country, and as a lot of food is grown locally life here is very inexpensive!

The Dominican Republic has no visa requirements for visitors from most countries, so all you need is a passport (valid for the next 6 months). The country has 6 international airports that receive fights from most major cities in the USA and Europe.

What is Sosua like?

Sosua is a vibrant city, located between Puerto Plata and the kitesurf capital of the Caribbean, Cabarete. Sosua has it all, with a multitude of small bars and restaurants. There are all sorts of activities to try, including horse back riding, surfing, kite surfing, diving, jeep safari, and many more. At night the town comes to life, with great bars and clubs open almost the whole night.

How is the diving?

The diving is very similar to other great Caribbean dive destinations, with deep walls, wrecks and beautiful coral reefs. (Check out our local dive sites here.) As there is almost no current the diving is well suited for teaching.

The average water temperature is approximately 80F / 27C and the visibility is around 60-100ft / 18-30m throughout the year, making Sosua the perfect diving destination!
